Powerful cold front blasting into SE TX.

Waco dropped from 72 to 49 in one hour and College Station dropped
from 73 to 50 in 30 minutes.

Front is currently along a line from Huntsville to Austin. College
Station is at 50 with Brenham at 72 and BUSH at 76. Dallas has fallen
to 33 and Amarillo is at 19.

Very strong cold air advection and moderate rainfall will arrive this
evening. Temps will drop at least 20 degrees with the front and
continue to fall into Thursday morning. Will go below guidance and
undercut forecast highs for Thursday by 5 degrees as strong cold air
advection, clouds, and developing rain hold temps. in check. Will go
with highs in the mid 40's metro Houston to near 40 northern counties
with some places probably staying in the 30's. Afternoon guidance has
moved away from the freezing rain potential for our northern counties
Thursday night, but looking at the upstream dewpoints temps. it may be
close. Will have to keep a close watch on this.

Otherwise, wet and cold through Friday with warming back into the
muggy 70's this weekend.

Strong arctic front heading south.

Dallas dropped from 67 to 42 in the last 1.5 hours as the front
passed. Very cold air is over OK and KS heading south. Major ice and
snow storm ongoing across the plains from CO to OH and into the NE US.
Ice accumulations of .5-1.0 inches has resulted in widespread power
outages over KS from Whicita to Kansas City. Snowfall of 8-15 inches
is expected from Denver to Chicago and into the NE US. Significant
icing of 1.5-2.0 inches is expected over the NE US with rain falling
into temps. in the teens (OUCH).

Strong front will reach central TX by noon and be into our northern
counties by 600pm and off the coast by midnight. Expected a 20-30
degree temp. drop within 2 hours after frontal passage. Short wave in
the southern stream flow brings moisture over the cold air starting
late tonight. Rain will break out after midnight in the cold air as
upgliding warm moist air increases. Wet bulb temps and surface
dewpoints become very close to freezing over our northern counties
Thursday evneing through Friday morning. Point forecast soundings for
College Station shows a dewpoint of 32 and temps of 38 with 72% rain
chances. If cold air and dry air advection is greater we could see
some freezing rain Thursday night over our northern coutnies.
Everywhere else will be all rain as this air mass is only about 1000
to 1500 ft thick with warming above that level.

Extended:

Very cold arctic air builds over Canada. Upper air pattern shifts by
the middle of next week curving a torugh over the central US. Very
cold air will begin to move southward, but may get hung up by fast
undercutting westerly flow. Snow pack developing over the plains will
allow for little air mass modification, so this will have to be
watched over the next several days.
