NWS has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the coastal bend of TX from Corpus Christi to Matagorda Bay tonight,
SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 3-5 INCHES ARE EXPECTED.
Very heavy snow bands continue to develop with the ejection of the upper low across Mexico. IR satellite and local radars are showing strong echo enhance and even lightening strikes from south of San Antonio to north of Corpus Christi. Snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour will be possible within these intense bands. Near white out conditions can be expected and strong N winds of 10-120mph will blow and drift the snow along W/E highways. Stay off the highs, portions of I-10 and US 59 are already snowpack in Wharton County and conditions will only worsen through the night.
Harris County is currently under a winter weather advisory with accumulations upward of 1.0 inches tonight with higher amounts south of I-10. All surface obs across the metro area are at or below freezing so most of what is falling is sticking to rooftops and cars as well as some grassy areas.
1093 in Fort Bend County slushy and HWY 6 in Waller County is snow packed with slush.
Travel is strongly discouraged especially SW of US 59 where snow amounts may strand cars.
