What type of Christmas tree do you put up? A real tree or an artificial tree?
Our house we put up an artificial tree! Donny is from Ohio and he loves the real trees - but I don't like having to keep it watered and all the needles falling off. And since I'm the one who does it all - usually I have the last say! LOL.

Ingredients:
2 cups of Karo syrup
2 Ounces Liquid Chlorine Bleach
2 pinches Epsom Salts
1/2 Teaspoon Borax
1 Tsp. chelated Iron
Enough Hot Water to Fill the Two Gallon Bucket
Buy the Karo Syrup, Borax and Liquid Chlorine Bleach from the supermarket. Buy the Epsom salts from the drugstore and the chelated iron from a garden shop.
Fill the bucket with hot water to within one inch of the top and add the ingredients. Stir thoroughly, dissolving them.
With a saw, cut and inch off the bottom of the trunk of the tree. Try to make a level cut.
Immediately stand the trunk of the tree in the solution and leave for 24 hours.
Place your tree in a tree stand that contains a well for liquid.
Use a plastic cup to pour solution from the bucket into the tree well. Fill the well.
Everyday "top up" the well of the tree with the solution from the two gallon bucket.
Why does it fireproof your tree?
Fermilab says the Karo syrup provides the sugar necessary to allow the base of the tree to take up water. Up to 1.5 gal. of water can be taken up by the tree over a two-week period.
Boron in the Borax allows the tree to move the water and sugar out to every branch and needle in the tree.
Magnesium compounds in the Epsom salts and iron from the chelated iron provided in components for the production of chlorophyll to help keep the tree green.
The bleach prevents mold from forming in the solution.
Other beneficial side effects for that the needles will not drop, and you will notice and increase in natural evergreen fragrance.

Great post Coriolis. I never knew you could do something like that. I have printed out this recipe and next year when we can afford it - I might just get a real tree!!!
Getting into the holiday spirit today - got some decorations out and putting them out in the house. I have 8 small christmas trees - I am getting those out and putting the lights on them today. With the weather being rainy and etc - good weekend to do this.
