Strong cold front surging south through central TX with a prefrontal
trough over our region. Light showers will be exiting the area shortly
being replaced with cold air advection and broken stratus this
afternoon. Highs have likley already been reached for the day and
temps. will remain nealry steady or begin to fall this afternoon.
Weekend:
Overrunning pattern develops this weekend as cold air is locked in
place at the surface and a coastal trough is formed along the western
Gulf coast. Moisture will be forced up and over the cold air dome
resulting in cloudy skies and periods of light rain late Saturday and
Sunday. Highs will remain cool with the clouds in place and will
struggle to reach the 60 degree mark.
Next Week:
Large and powerful upper level storm system assults the state for much
of the week. Somebody is going to get a lot of rain given the pattern
set up and jet stream dynamics involved. Strong upper low drops deep
into Mexico by late Monday with a strong sub-tropical jet of 140kts
pouring NE into TX. This deep system will force surface low pressure
to form in SW TX Monday activating the surface cold front that passes
today and returns it as a warm front. Heavy overrunning rains can be
expected north of the warm front Monday and early Tuesday. The warm
front moves north of the region Tuesday bringing the entire area into
the warm and unstable warm sector. Powerful upper low begins to move
east across the state on Wednesday with a deep moisture fetch
entrenched over the SE part of the state. Prolonged heavy rains will
develop by late Tuesday and continue into early Thursday as the whole
system move across. The severe threat will also be high at this time
given the expected shear values and the 150kt jet max along a line
from Collage Station to Del Rio by Wednesday. As I stated somebody
will likely pick up their entire monthly rainfall in a few days if not
more.
