Strong thunderstorms pounding our SW counties right now. Doppler radar
estimating rainfall totals since noon of 2-4 inches over Matagorda,
Jackson, and Wharton counties. Upper level speed max responsible for
this activity remains over the area and upstream radars are shwoing re-
development over central TX where heating has occurred.
Strong upper trough being carved out over the southern plains. Cold
front currently blasting south through the panhandle with temps in the
40's right behind the front and 27 right now in S CO. Gusty north
winds of 20-40mph are being reported by the W TX mesonet from Lubbock
to Amarillo. We will get a taste of this but not the full brunt.
Strong upper level dynamics, moisture, and front will make for an
active night over the area. Rainfall totals so far over our SW
counties have been 2-4 inches which is nearing Flash Flood guidance. A
flash flood watch may have to be issued on the evening update if
addtional rainfall develops before the main event later tonight.
