Man Kills Wife in Chainsaw Accident

Wed Aug 4, 9:31 AM ET Reuters to My Yahoo!

LONDON (Reuters) - A British man was being treated for shock on Wednesday after he fell from a ladder while pruning trees, accidentally killing his wife with his chainsaw, police said.
The 56-year-old man, who has not been named, was cutting back tree branches at his home in southeast London on Monday when he tumbled backwards from the ladder. The running chainsaw crashed down onto the neck of his wife, who was working in the garden below him.
"The woman was killed instantly, although she was not decapitated," police said in a statement. "Her husband was taken to hospital. He is still being treated for shock." A police spokesman said the incident was being treated as a "tragic accident."

We All Scream for Ice Cream

Wed Aug 4, 9:34 AM ET Reuters
OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) - An Oklahoma ice cream man opened fire on a customer after a summer ice cream sale turned sour, police said on Tuesday.
Police in Enid, about 75 miles north of Oklahoma City, said they arrested Markus Miller, 29, an ice cream truck driver for Summer Song, on Sunday on two misdemeanor charges as well as a felony charge of pointing a firearm.
If convicted, Miller could receive up to 10 years in jail on the felony charge.

According to police, an 18-year-old woman approached Miller's ice cream truck and the conversation degenerated into a heated argument.
Miller is suspected of taking out a pistol and firing two shots at the feet of the woman. She was struck on the collarbone-area by either a bullet fragment or debris from the shots, police said. Miller was arrested in his ice cream truck a short distance from the incident and police recovered a hand gun from the vehicle, they said.

"It is not a normal or legal thing, anywhere in the country to carry a handgun without a permit while selling ice cream," said Sgt. Eric Holtzclaw, a spokesman with the Enid Police Department.

Normal?????? Yeah right-"Honey, I'm gonna get some ice cream from the ice cream man outside. Where's the .357?"

While some things can be considered an accident. I don't think it was an accident that the icecream man shot that 18 yr old with his hand gun. People like that should be banned from owning a gun. I don't own one and never will. Too many getting hold of guns while their short of a fry from their happy meal. :D

911 Operator's Job in Jeopardy Over Nap

Thu Aug 5, 4:08 PM ET Add Strange News - AP to My Yahoo!
By DAVID E. LEIVA, Associated Press Writer

BALTIMORE - After 10 years on the job at Anne Arundel County's 911 call center, Louis Gerber's alleged two-minute snooze may get him a written reprimand or, even, fired.
On June 29, Patricia Berg phoned Anne Arundel County Police to report a possible prowler, but the Glen Burnie resident apparently had to wait precisely 1 minute and 42 seconds for a response. The reason: Gerber allegedly fell asleep.

After a few moments of back and forth talk, Gerber didn't answer. According to the tape recording, his sleep was broken only when Berg asked him if help was on the way.

"Hello?" Berg said several times.
"Hello...yes?" Gerber answered.
"I was just wondering if you were still there?" Berg asked.
"What's the problem?" Gerber asked.
"I've already told you," Berg said. "You don't remember me telling you what was wrong?"
After a few seconds of mad typing, he confirmed the address Berg had given at the beginning of their conversation. The call was then passed along to a dispatcher.

Police officials were looking into the incident and considering whether disciplinary action was warranted, said police spokesman Lt. Joseph Jordan.
Jordan said Thursday he could not discuss personnel matters, but said this was the first time this type of incident had ever surfaced. "I've been here 18 years and this has never happened before," he said. Nearly 80 employees answer phones or dispatch police, fire and medical units at the county's 24-hour emergency call center. Jordan said a disciplinary panel would look into the matter before deciding if any punishment was merited. He doubted criminal charges would be filed against Gerber. "It doesn't rise to the level of any kind of criminal negligence," he said. Still, Jordan marveled at how national media attention, including "Inside Edition" and the NBC-TV "Today", found Gerber's story more interesting than last month's news about DNA evidence that linked a convicted murderer to the killings of three women dating back nearly two decades.

"It goes to show you it doesn't matter who you arrest," Jordan said. "He's the one person everyone wants to know about."

Gerber, who has worked as a call-taker for the county since 1993, declined to comment Thursday. He said he was on vacation. Berg said she reported "screeching" noises that sounded like someone was touching the glass panes on her townhouse's sliding door. Police went to the home, but no burglars were found. Berg said she phoned the call center supervisor to register a complaint about Gerber. Efforts to reach Berg on Thursday were unsuccessful.

Bank Robbery Suspect Forgets Checkbook

Thu Aug 5, 4:51 PM ET Add Strange News - AP to My Yahoo!
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Investigators did not need DNA or even fingerprints to track down a bank robbery suspect — he left his checkbook on the teller's counter.
A man walked into a First Federal Savings Bank branch Tuesday carrying a McDonald's bag and demanded money from a teller, witnesses said. He walked out of the bank just east of the city's downtown with some cash, but left his checkbook behind. The checks were printed with Larry Heady's name and his Maceo, Ky., address, police said. Police officers on Wednesday arrested Heady, 63, at his home in the town about 30 miles southeast of Evansville.

"Usually with suspects there's a general rule that you don't leave identification behind," police Sgt. Brett Fitzsimmons said. Heady was also a suspect in two bank robberies in Henderson, Ky., and another in Hopkinsville, Ky., police said. Heady was being held Thursday in the Daviess County, Ky., Jail.

who left their Identification behind. Two men left their wallet behind when they robbed a home with jewerly ect. when they realized that they went back to the house to do an even exchange.the police were already there filling out a police report. The men proceeded and asked the woman if they could get their Identification back and they would give her the things they stole. (Stupid then a bucket of rocks). (The police arrested them and took them to the police station.) (Either way they would have been caught.) (This sort of killed two birds with one stone.) (This is so stupid for someone to think they could do an even exchange for something they stole). (Some people don't even know how to rob anymore.) Lol :D

Needed: a Ban on Unsolicited Toe-Licking?

Fri Aug 6,12:18 PM ET
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - The Dutch Labour party wants to pass a law making unsolicited toe-licking an offence after police were unable to prosecute a would-be Casanova with a taste for female toes because he had committed no crime.

A police spokesman said on Friday a man had been detained after women sunning themselves in Rotterdam's parks and beaches claimed he would sneak up on them and begin to lick their toes. "The officers had to let him go. Licking a stranger's toes is rather unusual but there is really nothing criminal about it," the spokesman said. Dutch press reports said the man, who is about 35, had been licking the toes of strangers for about three years but was only recently caught by police.

Peter van Heemst, a Labour member of parliament, asked Christian Democrat Justice Minister Piet Hein Donner on Friday to explain why Dutch laws forbid littering but not uninvited toe-licking. van Heemst demanded an amendment prohibiting it. "It is a violation of one's privacy and one's physical integrity," he told a local news agency. "The norm... is that no one should touch your body if you haven't asked them first."

A spokesman for Donner said the minister could not immediately comment.
