Special Weather Statement
A deep tropical air mass is in the process of filtering back into the region. As this occurs... conditions will be somewhat favorable for short lived funnel clouds for the next few days. Although the vast majority of these features do not make it all the way to the ground
to produce tornados it is not completely out of the question.
Should you see any funnels begin to descend close to the ground... take shelter because they can produce damage. We will continue to monitor radar and issue warnings if necessary.

... Coastal Flood Warning in effect from 7 PM this evening to 7 PM
CDT Thursday...
The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has issued a
coastal Flood Warning... which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to
7 PM CDT Thursday. The coastal Flood Watch is no longer in effect.
Tides are currently running 2 feet above normal. Expect levels
to increase another 1/2 foot tonight as moderate to strong southeast winds
and seas increase. After adding the astronomical high tide of around 2 feet
to this... it will produce a total tide between 4 and 4.5 feet along the Gulf
facing beaches which will create coastal flood problems at the susceptible spots.
This includes the Bolivar Peninsula... western Galveston Island... Blue Water Highway
and Surfside. Wave run up will also contribute to even higher levels. The lowest
lying Bayside locations could also see water levels push above bulkheads
and into yards and roads. The highest threat of flooding will occur around
high tide at each location. In addition to high water levels... high surf will
create strong rip currents so swimming is discouraged.
This warning may need to be extended through Thursday night.
Note... high tide levels are referenced from mean lower low water.

.discussion...
Was leaning toward canceling the flash flood watch this evening...but
within the past hour there has been an increase in activity off the
coast. Not sure how much of these showers and thunderstorms will make
it onshore as a drier airmass continues to work this way from the east...but
if they do they could potentially add more rain to our very saturated
grounds. So will hold off on the cancellation for now. 42

... Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this
evening...
The coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this
evening. Tide levels averaged around 2 feet above normal early this
morning and are expected to slowly subside today. The Tides will be
highest on the Gulf facing beaches where total tides of near 4 feet
will be common this morning during the high tide. Total tides in the
bays will range from 3 to around 3.5 feet. Along the Gulf facing
beaches... wave action is expected to diminish today but still may
cause problems this morning.
In Galveston County... tides of near 4 feet will likely cause
flooding on Highway 87 on the Bolivar Peninsula. Flooding is likely
on County Road 257... the Blue Water Highway... and on FM Highway 3005
on the west end of Galveston Island.
In Harris County... the resulting water levels around high tide may
cause some coastal flooding at the lowest Waterfront locations such
as the southern portion of Toddville Road in Seabrook closer to the
Kemah bridge.
In Matagorda County... flooding is possible on FM Highway 457 south
of Sargent and FM Highway 2031 south of Matagorda going to Matagorda
Island.
The lowest lying Bayside locations could also see water levels push
above bulkheads and into yards and roads.
In addition to high water levels... high surf early today may
generate strong rip currents. Swimming is discouraged.

low water.
