Kinda late on this thread but I have had a great garden this year.

I planted green beans, tomatoe plants, bell peppers, cucumbers and okra.

I have over 3-4 large buckets of Tomato plants that are delicious, i have picked 2-3 bell peppers with 6-8 more on the vines- then I have 3 or 4 cumbers that I picked - have alot more on the vine - these were late in coming. Had two pickings of green beans and then they all dried up. Finally getting some okra - woohoo!

So its been a good garden this year - its now June 18th and I'm still getting stuff out of it - so that's good from my perspective.

Ok, I'm jealous. My tomato plants haven't done a thing this year. nothing. I've gotten some squash off my plants and got some lettuce early on. And my jalepeno pepper plants are going nuts. Have a couple of bell peppers on the plants. The birds got my strawberries and blackberries before they were ripe.

This is my 3rd of trying to grow veggies and this year i'm actually getting something ! yay
I planted cucumbers , which haven't produced yet but they're blooming. I also planted tomatos , i have 3 plants that started as seeds (i had more but had to get rid of some because a storm a few weeks ago tore them up) and i have one that was about 10inches tall when i bought it and that is growing like a beast and also has (or had) a bunch of maters on it but birds have been picking on them...grrrrr.....a friend of mine is sending me a net for my plant and hopefully it'll keep those birds away !
I also have a basil and parsley !
All i need is mozarella cheese and i have myself a yummy salad !!! haha

Mandy, turn putting a couple of red christmas balls on your tomato cages. They are about the size of a tomato the birds will peck them and get nothing and in some cases it irritates their beaks so it tends to disuade them. Seemed to work when I've used it in the past. Tip from the A&M Ag Ext Dept

I have heard about the christmas balls too. This year I have been really lucky on the birds not getting my tomatoes. What ends up happening when I'm getting the last of my tomatoes is stinkbugs getting on them. I usually try to spray them with vinegar to keep them off. This year if they are slightly red/pinkish - I pick them and let them rippen in the house.

Also, I used tulle - that material they use to make wedding veils and etc in my garden - you can get rolls of it at the fabric store or places like hobby lobby and put over tomatoes.

See , i thought about doing that too, bringing them in and let them ripe in the house but i wasn't sure if they were better of outside or not because it's warmer out there then it is in here !?!?

That's the way I have done all my tomatoes this year - when they start turning colors - I pick them - leave them on the table for a day or two until the rippen then put them in frig and eat! Worked out really well - I get more and the bugs less.

BTW my garden is done. I watered it last night for the last time to try and save the last two cucumbers I have but everything else is dried up from the heat. I'm happy - I put my garden in during April and gotten alot of veggies until June 24th - this is the latest I have gotten produce from it.

Now to clean it out - build it up and I'm gonna plant tomatoes in September (plants) to see if I can get some before the first freeze happens. Might do a winter garden - anyone ever plant a winter garden in SE Texas? What do you plant?

I was about to give up watering my garden, but dadgum if my strawberries aren't blooming and starting to make again. And my squash is hanging on too. And I've gotten used to going out and picking fresh herbs to cook with so now I've got to keep them watered. Although I think my Greek oregeano is toast. But I put most of them in pots....so they could be moved in case of incoming storms.
