Next week I believe is hurricane prepadeness week. The plan of our emergency prep team is to send out an email a day with tips. We are in the process of updating our book which we'll pass out, but won't be having a meeting with the staff and attorneys this year.

I am going thru all our checklists here trying to come up with a list of tips. What do ya'll think are some of the most important/helpful reminder tips? Supplies? Vehicle? Pets?

One thing I did prior to Rita was scanned important documents like insurance, social security number, etc onto a jumpdrive. I had critical info with me that was easy to carry in addition to the paper copies. Also scanned photos that could never be replaced. I figured I would at least have that to print in case I lost my photos since I couldn't take everything with me.

good idea BWW. That is in our book, but a reminder never hurts.

My advice is prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I never dreamed I would be without power for 17 days after Hurricane Ike while dealing with my dad in Methodist Hospital after a massive heart attack.

My biggest concern is fuel - we are planning on have 50+ gallons if we get a storm here on the SE texas coast again. Once again we have an emergency fund of $5000 this year. We did preventive maintanence on our generators and run them every two months.

I need to save up and get one of those mini digital tv's - I had a small portable one that ran on batteries that I used the night Ike blew in and it only got KHOU but it kept me informed along with two dear friends in SC and Florida who texted me during the whole storm giving me the latest information about the storm.

Has anyone found a reasonably priced battery powered digital tv?

LOL while that is a realistic and smart suggestion and one that I have for me, that's not something the attorneys I am gearing this to will appreciate.
