Given the current forecast track and gravity of Frances, I believe it is time to start preparing along the EC of Florida.
Media reports indicate stores are already running low on hurricane supplies with waiting list at some places. The fast forward motion should slow some Wednesday and Thursday opening a little longer time before landfall. However, the portion of the FL coast from near Cape Canaveral to Jacksonville has not experienced a major hurricane landfall in nearly 100 years.
The city of Daytona Beach has gone into preparation mode and are urging their citizens to move Hurricane Charley debris into their garages or a secure location.
Residents should fully stock their hurricane supply kits including water and canned foods. Have plywood cut and ready to cover windows once a watch is issued. If you have electric shutters make sure they will close (give them a test). Determine your evacuation route both a primary and secondary route. If you do not know if you are in a storm surge zone contact your local emergency management office for your city or county. Discuss what you will do if a hurricane watch is issued, make a list and check the items off when the time comes to act. Boats should be removed from the water and stored at safe locations. Do as much as you can before a watch is issued, panic and chaos will ensue once the watch goes out at the stores, on the road, and on the TV. Take the time now to get the facts and the correct data from local officials and be fully prepared to put your personal hurricnae plan into motion by Thursday.
Remember to remain calm and plan ahead. As long as you take all precautions and heed local emergency management advice you should do just fine.
