Great idea, Patricia. I do have a question: All of my pipes are underground, and the main cut-off valve is actually inside one of my kitchen cabinets. The only thing outside are two faucets at the side and back of the house, coming right out of the house. What, if anything, should I do about those?

I have covered mine with the faucet covers you can get at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. Also, my neighbor has always put miniature Christmas lights on his pipes whenever there has been an ice threat. His pipes never froze and his house is on blocks. Might be a good added protection to have on hand.

Just a thought in case any of us have to get out in this later when it starts getting worse and that frozen stuff starts happening. Make sure your car tank is filled and also have some extra food, water, flashlight and a blanket with you. Here is the link to the KHOU cold weather tips list.

And if we do have to get out lets all be careful. We know how people drive in the rain down here don't assume they'll be any smarter with frozen stuff. Especially since most of us don't know and aren't familar with how to drive in icy conditions. Or get very little practice at it.

I'm not driving if I have too - but if I do - there will be a survival kit that goes in the car with me. Everyone be safe out there and don't get caught unprepared.
