We did an ACE calculation today. ACE stands for "accumulated cyclone energy", and is a measure of overall tropical cyclone activity. There has never been a season with as much ACE as 2005 has had by this point in the season. Also, the mean date for the formation of the 5th named storm is September 11th, so we are a full 2 months ahead of schedule.

Not sure which forecaster wrote it, but I enjoyed the Dennis statement last Saturday night: " deepening bordering on insane" reffering to the 11 mb drop in pressure in 1.5 hours. Very impressive indeed.

Hats off to all the NHC forecasters, your hard work is much appreciated. The Dennis forecast track was dead on from the get go. Well done

As far as the Dennis forecast - I was thinking the same thing. Was pretty right on !!!
