Well I bought me a sewing machine several months ago and as always - I am just too busy to use it. So I am going to get it out this week and start using it. Thought about making curtains for the living room - all I have covering the windows are veritcal blinds. But the material I want to use is NOT cheap. Another thing to add to the wish list I guess.

Anyone else sew on a regular basis? How do you get into the mood to do it?

I teach sewing at REL to the high schoolers! I know it sounds crazy but I love it!

I still do some of my own sewing in making gifts for others!

One of my favorite things to do is practically memorize a pattern before I ever start working on it. I shove it in my purse and everywhere I go that I have a few minutes wait, I take it out and literally sew the garment in my mind, before I ever cut the fabric!

Crazy, huh! But it kinda makes me anxious to get it going and get it finished! I have a terrible habit of not finishing a lot of projects I start, so I have to do something to inspire me to finish.

Also, I make sure the projects are short, since I am destined to doom if it takes a long time! I lose interest quickly.

Start with something small and quick...in our classroom, we do initial pillows, small purse, beanies, quillows, vests with no buttons, things like that that can be finished quickly to get the motivation up!

Have fun...

I'm so impressed by you people... I can't sew a button on without it falling off again 30 minutes later, and I hem with a stapler. LOL Silly thing is, I love cross-stitch! But that's just counting and little x's... hard to mess that up. :)

I couldn't sew something together if I had a gun to my head...I'm sure I could learn, but I tend to not have the patience...

I'm with you Gina...I can cross stitch...not too easy to mess that up, especially if you've got a pattern that is color coded, lol...

My artistic thing of choice is drawing/sketching...how I have the patience for that I don't know, but I love it...

I love to sew. Its just the time factor for me. Not enough hours in the day to do it. I started a quilt last fall. I'm slowly working on it - its a patchwork quilt. I took sewing in high school for two years. My mom sewed all our clothes when we were growing up so naturally I wanted to do it. Glad to have you hear gossjean to discuss this.... my daugther has two patterns she keeps wanting me to make.....i might attempt it after school starts.

Well Ticka, you and I ought to get together this fall sometime! BJ bought me a wonderful new sewing machine that is like a computer! One I never would've bought for myself! It's a Janome but all I've done so far is turn it on! It has to be programmed and just as I was getting the hang of it to program it, something interrupted me and the next thing ya know, we are moving! So it's still in the box in my sun room waiting for a cabinet... I better use it this winter or BJ may kick my hiney!! :bash:
