So get up this morning and what do I find in my backyard again? Note I said AGAIN!!! My neighbor's dog who lives behind me. For like the 5th time. Now mind you, I love dogs. Heck I love ANY critter. But this is a 125 lb. bull mastiff (think Turner & Hooch) who's owner has kept him either tied up to a tree or dragging around a 50-lb weight. I have called SPCA before and NEVER heard anything. We even put up an 8' wood fence to keep him out, guess that didn't work. Even worse, then he discovers my cats. After avoiding bloodshed I take the dog (who is still attached to his steel cable) and walk around the block to find that the STUPID PET OWNER isn't home. Now this is 6:00 AM, okay? My bones don't function real well for about an hour when I get up, so I've been up for like 20 minutes.
Limp back home and husband tells me he heard the guy calling for the dog. Uh, STUPID HUSBAND do you think you coulda walked to the fence and told him I was looking for him? Guess not.
So now dog is tied to my magnolia tree in the front, God knows how long it will hold or how long it will take before he pulls the 40' tree down or how long it will take animal control to get here.
But MAYBE, just MAYBE if this guy had treated this dog better, i.e. more like an animal that has a heart and a mind, instead of some watch dog, this wouldn't have happened. Doggy would have never wanted to leave his backyard for mine. MAYBE if he hadn't left the dog out in all kinds of weather, spent more than 10 minutes with him everyday, the dog wouldn't be going to the pound. This is NOT a vicious dog, except when it comes to cats. Think he'd like to munch one of mine for a snack. He just wants to be loved and petted and feel safe.
Some people shouldn't be ALLOWED to own critters. And this guy is one of them. Better yet, someone should chain HIM up to a tree and see how he likes it.
