GRASS VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - Nevada County authorities were investigating a shooting that wounded a 29-year-old man in the buttocks and led officers to a large stash of marijuana and a wad of cash.
Brandon Sanders said he did not know who shot him Monday night, and investigators said they were not sure how the wound was inflicted.
"He has not been the most cooperative victim," said Sheriff Keith Royal.
Sanders reported the shooting and paramedics and officers who responded found him sitting in his car in a parking lot.
"He had blood in between his legs," Royal said. "And a deputy smelled a strong marijuana odor near the vehicle."
No weapon was found at the scene, but a trail of blood led officers to three large bags of marijuana hidden in the bushes. A roll of cash was found on the ground near the car.
"At this point, it is hard to determine if the injury is an accident, or if it was inflicted by another person," Royal said. "We are handling this investigation as an assault with a deadly weapon at this time
