I'd like to see my ice cream supply updated on a daily basis, is that possible? KIDDING. Really, good thought on putting this up. We need to be a little more aware of this brute as he makes his way northwestward.

Wonderful idea to have this thread!

*listening to "Goodbye Earl" right now* hmmm, too bad I don't have a big enough stereo system to blast this song all the way to where Earl is right now so he'd get the picture Texas don't want him....

Just watched Ch. 13 and David Tillman said that people from Corpus to LA/N.O. need to watch Earl.

Thanks for that info Lyn. I'm deeply engrossed in smashing penguins and the movie "Ghost Ship" and not even paying attention. Shame on me!

I just found out about this site this morning. I am from Houston and just graduated from Texas A&M Friday with a BS in meteorology. For the last 4 years I have provided weather e-mail updates to SE TX, so if anybody is interested to joining into the list just let me know. They are my personal take on the situation and should not be taken as fact or for any type of prepardenss purpose.

Welcome to WOW!!!! Glad you found us. I'll be starting A & M in the spring, hopefully, same major. What's your take on Earl?

Given that the system is now an open wave, a more southerly track may be in order taking the system further south on the Yucatan. Given the favorable conditions ahead of the system I see no reason except the fast forward motion why Earl should not close off a center and intensify.

The tricky part comes this weekend in the BOC as the sub-tropical ridge breaks down and a trough approaches from the NW. The steering currents should weaken greatly leaving Earl to sit and spin over the warm 88 degree water of the southern Gulf.

Sitting and spinning can be a dangerous thing, especially at this time of year. I had heard that ridge might fall apart. Could be an interesting weekend for folks along the gulf, me included. Thanks for your input.

so after sits and spins in the gulf, where do you think he will go? or it to early to tell. would this not keep earl south and into mexico or south of mexico. i am still learning jeff so i may ask stupid questions.
hey lyn we love trading spaces and ghost ship freaks me out.

since Earl has weakened into an open wave, almost anything is possible. A track more left of the NHC forecast is possible given the system remains weak. We will have to see what Earl is by Saturday and where it is located by then before any speculation about the track can be made. Forecast steering currents in the BOC and GOM are to weaken over the next few days as the current trough lifts NE and another one drops into the central US. This would allow anything in the southern Gulf to move slowly WNW to NW if it moves at all.

So the short is, it is too early to tell especially since it is not even a closed system anymore.

Ok, we need WHATEVER he is to stay away until Sunday. I gotta move my daughter down from Dallas and the thought of moving stuff down in the pouring rain is NOT my idea of a good time.............
